Checking For Skin Cancer on the Head and Neck

There are many reasons to have a dental check-up every 6 months. The main reason is to clean the tartar off your teeth and check your gums, but many of you may not know that we also check for oral cancer and skin cancer. This year we have seen a spike in skin cancer. During a check-up we may see a skin lesion that could be skin cancer. At that time we will tell you and recommend the proper medical professional that you should see to get checked further. If you have not had a check-up recently call us today and make an appointment.

Chipped teeth

It took a little while but summer is here and in full swing. The warm weather feels so good after the cold, wet spring. People are spending more time outside enjoying great summer activities. With all the fun people are having outside, a number of our patient have had dental injuries. I have seen a wide array of different injuries from cuts on the mouth and lip to fractured teeth. The causes for all these injuries have been from playing Frisbee, sports such as baseball and football, to just walking and then tripping over something. Though many of these accidents could not have been prevented we have found that if an athletic mouth-guard is worn during a sporting event that 40% of all oral injuries would be prevented. This is a significant decrease in broken teeth. Now that you have decided that a mouth-guard should be used, which one is the best? If you go to the store they sell nice “boil and bite” type mouth-guards. They work ok and will be a step up from nothing. The best type of mouth-guard is a custom made mouth-guard fabricated by the dentist. This mouth-guard will fit better and protect your teeth which will almost eliminate any injury to your teeth. Come on in and see us to have your custom mouth-guard made.
